Today, October 21th, Uzbekistanis will have the opportunity to witness a truly unique natural landscape. According to astronomers, the green comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) passes through the closest point to Earth. This phenomenon is very rare, and scientists say that it won't wait at least a thousand years for it to repeat. This was reported by National Geographic.
According to experts, as Lemmon's comet has been approaching the inner solar system for several months, it has become increasingly bright and visible to the human eye.
Astronomer Stroud said that this year Lemmon's Comet will be one of the most attractive and striking comets in the Earth's sky. Its green coloration is due to the decomposition of diatomic carbon (C2) under the influence of sunlight. This process creates bright green light at the head of the comet.
The comet can be observed in the territory of Uzbekistan after sunset, approximately from 19:00 to 20:30. Experts recommend choosing an open and elevated area away from city light for observation. A telescope is not necessary to see it, but a clear sky and an environment with minimal light pollution are important.
Astronomers emphasize that the comet is absolutely safe for Earth - it poses no threat to our planet's orbit.
