New information has been released regarding the construction of a tunnel through the Bering Strait, which will connect Russia and the US, Topnews reports.
According to the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RFPI) and the president's special representative for international economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, the project cost is at least $8 billion.
Dmitriev noted that this project, which is unofficially called the "Putin-Trump Tunnel," can be implemented in less than eight years. The tunnel is intended for rail and freight transportation, "creating the possibility of developing joint resources of Russia and the USA," he said.
According to his description, the length of the tunnel under the Bering Strait is 98-113 kilometers, which is almost twice as long as the famous Eurotunnel (51 km) connecting France and Great Britain.
Kirill Dmitriev approached Elon Musk and suggested using The Boring Company technology. It is said that this method can significantly reduce construction time and save costs.
According to Dmitriev, the idea of the "Putin-Trump Tunnel" has generated significant public interest. "The news about this has been viewed two million times. Trump called it interesting, while Zelenskyy didn't like it. The largest media outlets wrote on this topic," he said.
Interestingly, the idea of creating a transport corridor between Chukotka and Alaska was first discussed in 2007. At that time, the Ministry of Economic Development proposed a 6,000-kilometer transcontinental highway project, of which 102 kilometers were to pass under the strait.
Now this idea is on the agenda again. On August 15, 2025, during a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska, Dmitriev presented a project plan that could become a "new world bridge between Eurasia and America."
Thus, the project of a tunnel connecting Russia and the USA through the Bering Strait is of great interest not only in terms of engineering, but also as a geopolitical symbol. Experts assess this initiative as one of the most unusual transport facilities of the 21st century.
