A high-ranking official of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, was attacked in Moscow. According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, an unknown person opened fire on the first deputy head of the GRU and disappeared from the scene. Currently, the General, a recipient of the title of Hero of Russia, is in critical condition in the hospital.
Attack details: Lift ambush
The incident occurred in one of the apartment buildings on the Volokolamskoye highway.
- Time and place: Around seven o'clock in the morning, while he was in the elevator hall of the general's house, an unknown person followed him and fired several shots.
- Condition of the victim: Although official sources do not disclose the severity of the wound, military channels on social networks report that the general's condition is extremely serious.
- Criminal case: An investigation has been launched under the articles "Attempted Murder" and "Illegal possession of weapons."

Vladimir Alekseev is considered one of the most influential figures in the Russian military intelligence system.
- Negotiations and intelligence: He is the right hand of Igor Kostyukov, who leads the Russian delegation in trilateral dialogues with Ukraine and the USA.
- Prigozhin and "Wagner": during the famous "march of justice" in 2023, Alekseev was one of the key figures in negotiations with Yevgeny Prigozhin.
- Private military companies: He is known as the main curator of volunteer formations such as Redut, which are participating in the battles in Ukraine.

This assassination attempt was the next in a series of devastating attacks against the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the General Staff over the past two years.
