Germany increases reserves using Russian gas

The German government has begun urgently filling gas storage facilities to ensure energy security. The geopolitical situation around Iran and the sharp rise in fuel prices are forcing European countries to replenish their reserves. Currently, the price of gas has exceeded $700 per thousand cubic meters, further increasing market instability. Reports eadaily.com.
According to reports, gas reserves in German storage facilities have fallen to their lowest level in the last four years. State-controlled companies SEFE and Uniper are directing more than 45 million cubic meters of gas per day into storage. Interestingly, part of these reserves comes from Russian gas. In particular, SEFE continues to receive Russian liquefied gas under a long-term contract with "Yamal SPG".
Although the German government nationalized assets belonging to "Gazprom" in April 2022, imports of Russian gas have not stopped. This gas is delivered to Europe via terminals in France and the Netherlands. Experts believe that long-term contracts allow Germany to obtain cheaper fuel at a time when prices have risen sharply. Currently, EU countries are taking advantage of favorable weather conditions to maximize reserves before the end of the winter season.
