The CAFA Nations Cup 2025 tournament is scheduled to be held from August 29 to September 8. However, even before the competition began, changes occurred in the tournament lineup — the Malaysian national team announced that it would not participate in the tournament.
According to Malaysia’s head coach Peter Cklamovski, the team’s key players play in top leagues such as Spain, Argentina, Japan, and Colombia. Therefore, bringing them to Tajikistan before the official FIFA dates is a very difficult process in terms of logistics and physical recovery.
— Since the tournament is being held before the official FIFA dates, it’s impossible to form a full squad. This, in turn, negatively affects preparation, recovery, and our budget. That’s why we’ll hold a training camp in Kuala Lumpur in September and thoroughly prepare for the crucial matches in October and November, — said Cklamovski.
It should be noted that based on the draw results, Malaysia was placed in Group "B" and was supposed to play against Iran, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan. The matches of this group are scheduled to be held in Tajikistan.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan’s national team is in Group "A". The matches of this group will take place in Tashkent. The "White Wolves" will face Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Oman.
Malaysia’s withdrawal from the tournament may affect the matches in Group "B", and changes in the schedule and fixtures are not excluded. CAFA officials are expected to make an official statement on this matter in the coming days.
This news, coming before the start of the tournament, was unexpected for fans and analysts. However, there is no doubt that the remaining teams will do their utmost to conduct the tournament at a high level. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
