Nodirbek Abdusattorov stopped at the quarterfinals of the chess tournament in Riyadh

In recent days, one of the largest cybersport chess tournaments — the "Esports World Cup Chess" with a total prize pool of $1,550,000 — is being held in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. This tournament has brought together leading grandmasters, famous chess players, and young talents on one stage.

Representing Uzbekistan, Nodirbek Abdusattorov played in the quarterfinals against France’s talented chess player, “Grand Swiss 2021” winner Alireza Firouzja. In a very tense and psychologically tough encounter, unfortunately, Nodirbek suffered from time trouble in the first game and missed his opportunity. In the second game, a major mistake deprived him of a chance to reach the semifinals.

For reference, another talented Uzbek player, Javokhir Sindarov, also took part in this prestigious championship. In his battle against fate, Sindarov lost twice in the group stage and exited the tournament early.

Thus, Nodirbek Abdusattorov also stopped his winning run in the tournament. Nevertheless, the 20-year-old grandmaster ended up among the top 8 chess players overall and received a prize of $85,000 as set by the tournament organizers. Javokhir Sindarov took 13th place and was awarded a $50,000 prize.

During the tournament, the Uzbek chess players withstood high-level competition and once again made their names known to the world community. These results will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration not only for chess players but also for all Uzbek athletes. In the upcoming new tournaments, more victories and bright achievements are expected from Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Javokhir Sindarov.
