The 'Messi' at RB Leipzig is failing to deliver expected results

Last summer, RB Leipzig beat out many top clubs to secure the transfer of Andrija Maksimovic. However, the young talent, who carried high expectations, has yet to find his footing at the German club. At a time when teams like Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Chelsea wanted to sign him, Leipzig won the race for 14 million euros. This is reported by Goal.com .
Maksimovic began his professional career at Crvena Zvezda, catching everyone's attention in his first season by contributing to 20 goals (10 goals and 10 assists) in 45 matches. His performances in the Champions League, in particular, showcased his potential. At 17 years and 188 days old, he became the youngest player to start in the first five matches of the tournament, breaking a record held by Vincent Kompany for 20 years.
Due to his movements on the pitch, dribbling, and passing skills, he was nicknamed 'Messi'. Interestingly, this nickname was given to him by his sister not because of his playing style, but because his hairstyle as a child resembled Lionel Messi's. However, his debut season in the Bundesliga has not gone as expected.
A thigh injury sustained during pre-season training disrupted his plans. Although coach Ole Werner has declared him fit, the opportunities given to Maksimovic remain limited. By the winter break, he had only made five substitute appearances in the Bundesliga. His participation in the DFB-Pokal has also been limited to just a few minutes.
