Anthropic conducted the largest AI survey

Anthropic has released what it calls the largest qualitative survey yet on public attitudes toward artificial intelligence, based on interviews with 80,508 Claude users in 159 countries and 70 languages. Instead of fixed multiple-choice questions, participants spoke with an AI interviewer that adjusted follow-up questions in real time. Reports Habr.com.

The most common hope was better professional efficiency, cited by 18.8% of respondents. Many said they want AI to handle repetitive tasks so they can focus on more difficult work. Personal growth and managing everyday life followed closely behind. Overall, 81% said AI had already helped them move at least somewhat closer to their goals, with productivity named most often as the biggest benefit.

At the same time, users voiced serious concerns. The top three fears were unreliable answers, disruption in the job market, and loss of personal autonomy. On average, each participant mentioned more than two separate worries. The findings suggest that trust remains one of the biggest barriers to wider AI adoption.

The report also found sharp tension in education and emotional support. One-third of respondents described AI as a learning tool, but 17% warned it may weaken thinking skills, especially among students. Meanwhile, 16% said AI offers emotional support, while 12% feared becoming too dependent on it. Time savings were the most widely reported advantage, though many said the extra time quickly disappeared as expectations rose.

Even with those concerns, 67% of participants expressed a generally positive view of AI. The survey points to a mixed global mood: people increasingly see AI as useful and even transformative, but they remain deeply cautious about its accuracy, influence, and long-term effects on work and human thinking.
