Earth Is Not a Perfect Sphere: NASA Reveals the Planet’s True Shape

NASA has presented a new geoid model of Earth based on data collected over 15 years. It shows variations in the planet’s gravitational field as different elevations and depressions.

According to scientists, Earth is not a perfect sphere. Because mass is not distributed evenly inside it, gravity is stronger in some regions and relatively weaker in others.

That is why the model may resemble a potato in appearance. However, the irregularities in the image have been magnified nearly 10,000 times to make them easier to understand.

In reality, these differences are very small and can barely be noticed with the naked eye. The model reflects Earth’s gravitational field rather than its external shape.
