Denmark imposes restrictions on new data centers due to artificial intelligence

Daniyada sun'iy intellekt sabab yangi ma'lumotlar markazlariga cheklov qo'yildi

The Danish government has temporarily suspended the signing of contracts for connecting new data centers to the power grid. This was caused by an unprecedented surge in applications that exceeded the capacity of the infrastructure several times over. This was reported by Ixbt.com xabar.

According to the state operator Energinet, the total capacity of projects currently in the queue stands at nearly 60 gigawatts. For comparison, the peak electricity consumption for the entire country is only 7 gigawatts.

One-quarter of all submitted applications are for data processing centers. The high demand driven by the development of artificial intelligence has forced the government to reconsider its energy distribution priorities.

Experts believe that the Danish scenario could serve as a model for all of Europe. Governments are being forced to choose between the economic benefits of artificial intelligence investments and energy security.

The issue of power systems overheating due to the needs of data centers is becoming a global phenomenon. While the U.S. state of Maine has come close to a total ban on the construction of new centers, the issue of moratoriums is being actively discussed in Virginia and Oklahoma.
