DesignArena Creators Raise $7.9 Million for AI

Intelligence, the company behind DesignArena, a platform focused on instilling aesthetic and human taste in AI models, has successfully closed a $7.9 million seed funding round. Led by Index Ventures, the financing also included prominent venture funds such as Conviction, A*, and Valkyrie. The funds will help further increase the role of human evaluation in improving AI models’ design and visual-generation capabilities. This was reported by TechCrunch.com reports it.
According to ixbt.com, the company was founded in 2025 by a group of college students shortly before graduation. They initially began working on an AI-powered game engine, but although the games created by the models were functional, they lacked human appeal and taste. The founders thus proposed collecting large-scale, authentic human feedback, resulting in DesignArena, a tool now used by 5.3 million people worldwide.
How the Platform Works and Its Business Model
For ordinary users, DesignArena works through a ChatGPT-style prompt window. It offers dedicated menus for websites, images, and dozens of other visual formats. After entering a request and style, users are presented with several options and rank the results from best to worst. This approach provides human-evaluation data that is extremely valuable to leading AI labs.Intelligence currently reports that its platform has reached $60 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR). AI companies need precise and reliable user feedback to improve their media-generating models. The team, led by Grace Li, is filling this gap, serving as a key analytical bridge for leading labs while generating stable revenue in return.
Automated Tests Versus the Power of Human Taste
Collecting human feedback is an important alternative to automated benchmarks. Although automated systems operate at scale, they are easier to manipulate. DesignArena makes it possible to track users’ tastes across different continents and as they change over time. For example, it shows that web designs in Asia tend to favor a more maximalist style. However, not every attempt in this field is equally successful. Yupp, one similar project, was forced to shut down this year less than a year after launching, despite raising $33 million in funding. The new investment raised by Intelligence will therefore enable the company to further strengthen its market position and expand its technology.
