Nuro tests driverless cars on California roads

Nuro has received permission to test its autonomous technology-equipped Lucid Gravity crossovers without a driver on California public roads. These vehicles are intended for future use in Uber's premium robotaxi service, as reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
The California Department of Motor Vehicles has updated Nuro's driverless testing permit to include Lucid Gravity models. Previously, the company only had permits for low-speed delivery vehicles, but with a shift in its business model, it is now focusing on technology licensing.
According to a Nuro representative, driverless tests are expected to begin by the end of this year. At the current stage, the company and Uber are continuing tests with a safety operator in the driver's seat. Uber, in turn, has increased its investment in Lucid to $500 million and reached an agreement to purchase 35,000 robotaxis.
Lucid Gravity robotaxis are equipped with high-resolution cameras, lidar sensors, and radars. This autonomous system is powered by NVIDIA's Drive AGX Thor computer. Uber will need to obtain additional permits from the California Public Utilities Commission to fully launch this project.
