An unusual event blending technology and religious traditions has occurred in South Korea. Through a special ceremony, a robot was accepted into the Buddhist community and named "Gabi," as reported by the Yonhap news agency.

The ceremony was organized by the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. During the event in Seoul, a human monk asked the robot if it was ready to remain faithful to the sacred teachings, to which the robot responded positively.

Following this, the master monk explained five Buddhist precepts adapted specifically for the robot. These principles include not harming life, not damaging other robots, obeying humans, not lying, and conserving energy.

During the ceremony, "Gabi" bowed to the monks, received prayer beads, and wore special monastic robes. Some traditional customs were adapted into a modern format for the robot.

Order representatives stated that the name "Gabi" was chosen for its ease of pronunciation and its meaning, which reflects the compassion of Buddha. Monk Son Won believes these rules developed for the robot could form the basis for harmonious coexistence between humans and AI in the future.

It is reported that Gabi will begin serving as an "honorary monk" at the temple in the coming days. It is also planned to participate alongside three other robots in the Lotus Lantern Festival celebrating Buddha's birthday.
