In Uzbekistan, food products nearing their expiration date will now be sold at discounted prices. This arrangement was established in a decree adopted by the government.
According to the new rule, large shopping centers and stores will set up special shelves. Products close to their expiration date will be placed there, and their prices will be gradually reduced every 10 days. The goal is to provide the population with quality products at affordable prices and, most importantly, to prevent excessive waste.
Moreover, measures will be taken to reduce product loss at all stages from the field to the consumer. This process includes crucial stages such as harvesting, sorting, loading, transportation, and storage of products in refrigerators. Each stage will be strictly monitored.
The quality of food, especially agricultural products, will also be under constant control. Special training seminars will be organized for farmers and peasant farms where they will learn about increasing productivity, conducting market analysis, and effective use of chemical substances.
According to the document, in January-February 2026, sanitary regulations and hygiene requirements will be improved for the processes of food raw materials production, transportation, storage, and sale.
The most interesting aspect is that the years 2026–2030 will be declared the "Period of Urgent Food Security" in Uzbekistan. During this period, special attention will be paid to delivering sufficient quantities of quality products to the population, as well as saving food and promoting rational consumption. For this purpose, the "Rational Consumption" (Save food) program will be implemented.
Experts emphasize that this initiative will not only serve to provide the population with affordable and quality products but also contribute to ensuring food security in the country.
