In the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev "On measures to ensure the effective use of floodwaters," it was announced that five new floodwater reservoirs will be built in Uzbekistan between 2027 and 2030.
These reservoirs are planned to be built in the Jizzakh, Samarkand, and Tashkent regions. As part of the project, floodwater reservoirs will be constructed at Tangatopdisoy in the Bakhmal district of Jizzakh region, Ghijduvonsoy and Choshtepasoy in the Urgut district, Oqtepasoy in the Qoshrabot district of Samarkand region, and Oqsoqotasoy in the Bostanliq district of Tashkent region.
According to the resolution, the new reservoirs will improve water supply for 7,000 hectares in Samarkand region, 2,000 hectares in Tashkent region, and 300 hectares in Jizzakh region. Additionally, 3,300 hectares of new land will be reclaimed in Samarkand region and 300 hectares in Tashkent region.
According to reports, 60 areas with the potential to create small water reserves have been identified across the republic. Building floodwater reservoirs aims to effectively utilize spring and summer floodwaters, increase agricultural production, and create new jobs.
It is reported that the resolution also provides for the implementation of certain projects based on public-private partnerships. In particular, private investors will participate in the construction of the Tangatopdisoy reservoir in Jizzakh and the Oqsoqotasoy reservoir in Tashkent region.
Additionally, the establishment of tourist-recreational zones and fisheries around the floodwater reservoirs will be permitted. It was announced that the construction of necessary external engineering and communication infrastructure will be financed from the state budget.
