Officially: Starting April 1st, no cash will be available at gas stations in Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, starting April 1, 2026, a number of payments will be accepted exclusively in non-cash form. It's not just about "convenience" - the main goal of the decision is to popularize cashless payments and reduce the share of the shadow economy.
The most discussed aspect is gas stations. From April 1, the sale of petroleum products and charging services for electric vehicles at gas stations will be carried out through bank cards or electronic payment systems. That is, the scenario of "I'll just give cash" stops working.
This procedure is not limited to gas stations. From this date, payments for electricity, natural gas, drinking water, as well as payments for alcoholic and tobacco products, will also become non-cash. In addition, payments for goods and services worth more than 25 million soums will be made only by card/electronic payment.
Another major point is large-scale buying and selling. The document also stipulates that payments for the sale and purchase of real estate objects, as well as certain categories of vehicles (categories M, N, O, and G) and special vehicles, the manufacturing date of which does not exceed 10 years, are made in non-cash form.
What does it mean in practice?
- The payment app on the card/phone will need to be set to "always ready."
- Before entering the "zapravka," it is advisable to check the balance and limits (otherwise, a "month-and-a-month" will begin at the checkout).
- In large purchases and transactions, money transfers, checks, and confirmation documents become more organized - then arguments about "I gave it" will decrease.
The conclusion is simple: from April 1, the regime for those who are "accustomed to cash" changes. If you adapt early, then you won't lose your nerve in the queue.
