Uzbekistan and India conclude WTO negotiations

Another important step has been taken in Uzbekistan's process of joining the World Trade Organization. Uzbekistan and India have successfully concluded bilateral negotiations on market access within the framework of WTO accession and signed a protocol consolidating the results of the agreement.

This was announced by Azizbek Urunov, Uzbekistan's chief negotiator for the WTO accession process. He noted that the main agreement on market access issues was reached in 2024. However, the processes of coordinating the protocol text, technical verification, and formalization took some time.

Azizbek Urunov specifically noted that the Indian side demonstrated a constructive and practical approach in the substantive part of the negotiations. He expressed gratitude to the Indian leadership and responsible agencies for supporting Uzbekistan's process of joining the World Trade Organization.

He also acknowledged the contribution of Uzbekistan's Ambassador to India, Sardor Rustamboyev, and India's Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Smita Pant, to the signing of this protocol. Diplomatic efforts played a significant role in bringing the agreement to the final stage.

It is reported that one of the original copies of the signed protocol will be submitted to the WTO Secretariat in the near future. After that, this document will be included in Uzbekistan's overall package of documents for WTO membership.

This agreement is of great importance for Uzbekistan. Reaching a market access agreement with each country is considered a crucial stage in the process of joining the WTO. The conclusion of negotiations with India is another serious result on the path to our country's integration into the international trading system.

In short, Uzbekistan and India have successfully completed market access negotiations within the framework of WTO membership. The signed protocol moves Uzbekistan's accession process one step further. The road is long, but every such agreement brings us closer to the big goal.
