On May 3, world-famous American pop star Lady Gaga held one of the largest and most talked-about concerts of her career on Brazil’s most iconic beach — Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. This historic event was organized for free and entered the list of music events with the largest audiences globally.
According to the concert organizers, more than 2.1 million fans gathered on Copacabana Beach to watch the singer perform. Before starting her show, Lady Gaga thanked the fans from the stage:
“Today, we are making history together — thank you to each of you for being part of this story,” said the star.
Although the spectacular concert started at 10:10 p.m. local time, some fans arrived at the beach early in the morning to secure a good spot near the stage and waited all day under the sun. Some especially enthusiastic fans reportedly even climbed trees to get a better view.
Lady Gaga began her performance with “Bloody Mary,” the song that brought her global fame in 2011, followed by iconic hits like “Poker Face”, “Alejandro”, and her new track “Abracadabra.” The concert truly turned into a celebration for the fans.
One of the attendees, 27-year-old Manuela Dobes, shared her emotions:
“This was the best day of my life. I’m incredibly happy to be part of such a grand show!”
It’s worth noting that this event was significant not only for the star and her fans but also for the city of Rio de Janeiro. According to BBC, the concert is expected to generate around $100 million for the city’s economy. Local authorities aim to boost tourism and local revenue by regularly hosting large-scale events like this.
For the record, Copacabana Beach has previously hosted legendary concerts by Michael Jackson and The Rolling Stones. But Lady Gaga’s show became one of the biggest and most talked-about events in recent years.
