The situation in Israel has further escalated. Hundreds of people gathered near the house of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and organized mass demonstrations. Among the participants, tensions flared, and garbage containers and car tires were set on fire. This was reported by “The Jerusalem Post.”
The main demand of the demonstrators is to reach an agreement on the release of prisoners in the Gaza Strip. They accused the government of not taking any practical measures. According to the police, in the Rehavia and Givat Ram neighborhoods, the damage was mainly to cars, but no casualties were reported.
A group of protesters climbed to the roof of the National Library building and, under the slogans “The government is not doing enough for the prisoners in the hands of Hamas,” staged a protest. In addition, along the Latrun road, several cars moved toward Jerusalem, also demanding an end to the war and the return of the captives.
According to reports, these demonstrations are being held within the framework of the initiative “Movement for the Protection of Prisoners’ Rights in Gaza.” These protests coincided with the time when the government is continuing its plan to capture the city of Gaza.
Reports noted that Hamas accepted the latest exchange proposal presented through Qatar’s mediation, but Netanyahu rejected it. According to official figures, 20 Israeli captives in Gaza are currently alive, while 28 have died.
At the same time, the Israeli army, during a ground operation that has lasted for 30 days, completely surrounded the city. Air and artillery strikes in many cases have also affected civilians. In the last 24 hours alone, 119 Palestinians were killed, including two journalists and many citizens waiting for aid.
The humanitarian situation in the region is worsening. Thousands of people are trying to survive in temporary tents on Gaza’s West Bank. International organizations have stated that there is no safe place left for the population in the area.
It should be recalled that since October 7, 2023, more than 63,000 Palestinians have been killed as a result of Israeli army strikes in Gaza. According to health institutions, 367 people, including 131 children, have died of hunger due to food shortages. Israeli officials have acknowledged food shortages in Gaza but deny allegations of mass starvation.
