Russia tested the nuclear 'Poseidon' device

The Russian Federation announced that it has successfully carried out a new testing phase of the strategic underwater device 'Poseidon.' This device is equipped with a nuclear energy system.

President Vladimir Putin described the results achieved during the tests as a 'great success.' According to official information, during the recent tests, the device was launched from a submarine.

The president noted that a key part of the test was the successful launch of the device from a submarine and the activation of the onboard nuclear energy system. "For the first time, we managed to start up the device's nuclear energy system, and it operated for a certain period," Putin said.

He emphasized that this stage is important for the entire project. In his address, the president also touched upon the technical and tactical characteristics of the device.

According to him, in terms of power, 'Poseidon' surpasses even the new generation 'Sarmat' intercontinental missile. It was also noted that the device has no equal in the world in terms of speed and operational depth.

"No one has created such a device yet, and it may be impossible to do so in the near future," Putin said. He also added that there are currently no effective ways to counter such a device.

Since 2018, 'Poseidon' has been known as the main element of a multi-purpose ocean system being developed in Russia. According to the Russian Navy command, this system includes special-purpose nuclear submarines and the unmanned underwater vehicles attached to them.

The official goal of this system is to maintain strategic balance and ensure global military stability. The concept of nuclear-powered torpedoes was first proposed in the USSR by academician Andrei Sakharov in the 1950s.

However, at that time the project was rejected for moral and technical reasons.
