Stellantis to start production of affordable electric vehicles in 2028

The Stellantis group plans to start producing a new series of compact and affordable electric vehicles in Italy from 2028. As part of this project, modern electrified versions of the legendary Fiat Panda and Citroën 2CV models are expected to be revived. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk reports .
The new initiative is based on the European Commission's "E-car" program, which provides special incentives for M1E category electric vehicles not exceeding 4.2 meters in length. These rules allow manufacturers to receive super-credits for CO2 emissions and serve to develop the small car segment.
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa called the lack of cars cheaper than 15,000 euros in the European market one of the main problems in the industry. According to him, the new project is aimed specifically at filling this gap and popularizing the use of comfortable, eco-friendly transport in urban conditions.
The production process will be established at the Pomigliano plant in Italy. Currently producing Fiat Panda and Alfa Romeo Tonale models, this plant has a capacity of up to 300,000 vehicles per year. The new electric vehicles will be built on the STLA City platform.
