Will a new Matiz electric car be produced in Uzbekistan? Official response

Reports that Chevrolet may produce a new, affordable electric car in the coming years based on China's Wuling Bingo Pro model have sparked significant interest among car enthusiasts. In particular, speculation that this model could be introduced in some markets as a modern electric successor to the Chevrolet Matiz is being widely discussed.
The Wuling Bingo Pro is a five-door hatchback with a length of just over 4 meters. The vehicle has a wheelbase of 2560 millimeters. The model is equipped with a single 88-horsepower electric motor driving the front wheels, designed for comfortable and economical urban driving.
In the Chinese market, this car is offered with two types of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, with capacities of 31.9 and 37.9 kWh, respectively. The Bingo Pro was officially launched in the spring of 2026, with a starting price of 58,800 yuan, or approximately 8,700 US dollars. Because of this, it is recognized as one of the cheapest and most popular electric cars in its class.

General Motors has previous experience bringing Chinese-made Wuling and Baojun models to other markets under the Chevrolet brand. For example, the electric Chevrolet Spark developed for Latin America was based on the Baojun E-Plus platform. Similarly, the electric Chevrolet Captiva is a version of the Wuling Starlight S sold with a Chevrolet logo.
Such practices have been applied in Uzbekistan before. Specifically, it is known that the second-generation Damas car produced a few years ago was actually based on the Chinese Wuling Hongguang V model.
In recent days, various speculations and discussions have appeared on social media suggesting that the new electric car could also be produced in Uzbekistan as a modern electric successor to the Chevrolet Matiz. Despite the fact that these reports have generated great interest among local car enthusiasts, no official decision has been made on this matter yet.
A representative of “Uzavtosanoat” informed the “Daryo” publication that, at the moment, the production of this electric car based on the Wuling Bingo Pro is not included in the plans for Uzbekistan. Therefore, reports about the implementation of this project in our country have not been confirmed.

So far, Chevrolet has not provided specific information on when it will officially introduce the new electric car based on the Wuling Bingo Pro platform or which markets it plans to sell it in. However, it is noted that if the project is implemented, this model could become one of the cheapest and most popular electric cars under the Chevrolet brand for developing countries. This could contribute to further intensifying competition in the electric vehicle market in the future.
