If an ATM fails to dispense cash, the bank must refund the funds immediately

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has set strict requirements for commercial banks and payment organizations: customers should no longer suffer due to technical malfunctions in ATMs. The regulator emphasizes that if an ATM deducts funds without dispensing cash or "swallows" a bank card, it is not just a technical error, but a violation of citizens' property rights.

Ending bureaucracy

According to the new procedure established by the Central Bank, complaints regarding ATM malfunctions must be prioritized. Customers are no longer required to write lengthy applications or wait for weeks. All processes will be simplified, with customer interests set as the priority.

Automatic refund and transparency

Banks have been instructed to implement a system for automatic refunding of funds to the owner as soon as a software glitch occurs. Furthermore:

  • Clarity: The bank must provide transparent information to the customer regarding the cause of the problem and the timeline for the refund.

  • Ban on commissions: No commissions may be charged to the customer for transactions that failed due to technical errors.

Towards reliable service

This decision by the Central Bank is aimed at strengthening trust in the banking system. The regulator has called on commercial banks to conduct regular technical inspections of ATMs and elevate the culture of customer service.

Now, if an ATM "eats" your money, the bank administration is obligated to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and free of charge for the customer.

Have you ever experienced an ATM failing to dispense cash while still deducting it from your account, and how long did it take to resolve?
