Today, May 3, is World Press Freedom Day. Presidential Spokesperson Sherzod Asadov congratulated Uzbek journalists on this date.
“In Uzbekistan, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, ensuring freedom of expression, the right to receive and disseminate information is an important and integral part of our development strategy. This strategy is aimed at protecting human interests, building an open and just society in which the state serves the people.
Despite growing global threats, we are on the path to strengthening democratic institutions. In the context of political and economic instability, escalation of conflicts and the growth of disinformation in the world, Uzbekistan remains committed to the policy of creating the necessary conditions for the development of journalism, honest dialogue and diversity of opinions,” Asadov said.
The Presidential Spokesperson, in turn, notes with regret that “even in countries considered to be the pillars of democracy, the idea of freedom of speech is often under pressure from political, commercial or ideological interests.”
"We are witnessing the fact that open journalism is being replaced by a biased approach, and the principle of "freedom of speech" is increasingly losing its true value. According to analyses by international organizations, the fact that the general situation in the world will fall to a "complex" level for the first time in 2025 indicates that the situation in the field is deteriorating.
Therefore, it is especially important to preserve and develop an environment in our society where the professional work of a journalist is respected, facts and honesty are valued, and dialogue is based on openness.
On this day, we express our deep gratitude to journalists, bloggers, editors, cameramen, technical staff - all those who serve every day to share knowledge and information, and to objectively cover events.
Thank you for your responsibility, courage and dedication to your profession. We wish you new achievements, good health and creative inspiration," writes Sherzod Asadov. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
