Gold in a baby diaper, $40 thousand found in a girl's clothing...

Two cases related to attempts to secretly smuggle precious items and large amounts of cash across the border were uncovered in Tashkent region. In the first case, nearly 200 grams of gold bars were hidden inside a baby's diaper, while in the second case, $40,000 was concealed under the clothing of a 14-year-old girl.
Both attempts were exposed during customs control while leaving Uzbekistan. Investigative actions on these cases are currently ongoing.
Two bars hidden inside a baby diaper
According to the Tashkent Regional Customs Administration, a woman leaving Uzbekistan through the "Navoi" border customs post was subjected to customs control.
During the inspection, it was discovered that she had hidden two gold bars weighing nearly 200 grams inside the diaper of her infant child.
When the woman's personal belongings were also inspected, it was revealed that she had an additional 70 grams of jewelry that had not been presented to customs control.
According to preliminary calculations, the total value of the gold bars and jewelry attempted to be smuggled out amounted to 450 million sums.
The "Navoi" border customs post is officially registered as a post within the territory of the Tashkent region.

$40 thousand hidden under a daughter's clothing
In another case, a citizen of a neighboring country leaving Uzbekistan was stopped by customs officers.
During the inspection, it was found that 40,000 US dollars were hidden under the clothing worn by her 14-year-old daughter.
Customs information did not specify whether the underage girl was aware of this action or independently participated in the process. Therefore, in giving a legal assessment to the situation, the actions and responsibility of the adult companion are expected to play a primary role.
The funds were not presented to customs control and were not processed in the established manner.
How much currency can be taken out without a declaration?
According to the current procedure, individuals may take out national or foreign cash currency from Uzbekistan without filling out a customs declaration, provided it does not exceed the equivalent of 100 million sums.
Funds exceeding the equivalent of 100 million sums must be declared under customs control and presented to an officer. This norm came into effect on December 6, 2023.
At the same time, hiding funds among clothing, luggage, or other items is not considered a legal way to take them out. Citizens are required to present the money and valuables they are carrying to customs control in the prescribed manner.

There are also rules for exporting gold items
Cross-border transportation of gold bars, precious metals, and jewelry differs from the export of ordinary personal items.
Depending on their quantity, value, origin, and the purpose of export, relevant documents and customs clearance may be required.
For this reason, hiding valuables from customs officers can lead not only to their confiscation but also to the consideration of liability established by legislation.
However, the guilt of the individuals in these two cases has not yet been confirmed by a court decision. After the customs investigations are completed, a legal assessment of the actions will be given and subsequent procedural decisions will be made.
Involving children in such actions is dangerous
It is striking that in both cases, items related to children were used to conceal valuables or money.
In the first case, gold was placed inside a baby diaper, and in the second, currency was placed under the clothing of an underage girl.
Such actions not only attempt to bypass customs control but also create the possibility of placing the child in a legally and psychologically dangerous situation.
The safest way to transport money or valuables across the border is not to hide them, but to study the rules in advance and openly present them to customs officers.
