After a hard 3-3 draw against Werder Bremen in the second round of the German Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen split ways with manager Erik ten Hag. This decision is being viewed as a surprise by the football community.
The 55-year-old Dutch manager was brought to the Leverkusen club in the summer to replace Xabi Alonso, who moved to Real Madrid as head coach. The club's management expected him to build a team that could achieve high results and compete equally with top teams.
But ten Hag's journey was short. Under his management, Bayer Leverkusen played only two Bundesliga matches: a 1-2 defeat to Hoffenheim in the first round, followed by a 3-3 draw against Werder Bremen.
The club's management did not consider these results sufficient and decided to terminate the contract with the coach. It's clear that the Leverkusen club will now be looking for a new specialist, as their goal is to compete with leading Bundesliga clubs and successfully participate in international competitions.
