Jose Mourinho, who took the helm of Benfica, openly admitted in a recent interview that his work at Turkish club Fenerbahçe was not the right decision. The Portuguese manager left his team, which he had managed since the summer of 2024, at the end of August.
"For me, returning is an opportunity to manage one of the most prestigious clubs in the world. During my career, I have worked with large teams in many countries and gained extensive experience.
Of course, I have sometimes made wrong decisions. One of them was to start working at Fenerbahçe. The culture there was alien to me, and the level of football didn't suit me. Nevertheless, I did everything in my power until my last day," Mourinho said.
The well-known coach also did not hide his anger when he left the job: "No coach wants to be unemployed. Like Bruno Laje, I was offended by this situation. But now, by managing Benfica, I've returned to my true level. Because my status is to manage only the largest clubs."
Mourinho's statement generated significant interest not only in Portugal but throughout the European football community. Because he once again showed that he is ready to show himself on the biggest stage of the football world.
