As you know, Fabio Cannavaro has been appointed the new head coach of the Uzbekistan national team. UFA First Vice-President Ravshan Ermatov answered many interesting questions at the organized press conference.
"Greetings, esteemed journalists, dear colleagues, and football fans. Today we have gathered to hold an important event for our country's football - a press conference with the participation of the new head coach.
The main task set for the coach is clear: to prepare the team for a worthy participation in the World Cup. On this path, we place our full trust in him. At the same time, to maintain the stability of the national team, Timur Kapadze will continue his work as an assistant coach.
Various figures are being mentioned on social networks, but I want to say frankly - these are just rumors. The UFA carried out all processes legally, transparently, and within its capabilities.
We express our deep gratitude to all the coaches who contributed to achieving this historic result, including Srechko Katanec and Timur Kapadze.
The World Cup is a major competition that the whole world watches, and the attention of the football public is focused on Uzbekistan. Therefore, it was planned to attract a specialist who participated as a player to participate in the tournament and bring the atmosphere of the World Cup. The UFA leadership and the coaching council deemed it appropriate to appoint Italian specialist Fabio Cannavaro as the head coach to prepare our team for the World Cup.
Cannavaro was the best defender in football history, whether we like it or not, to score at the World Cup, you need to maintain a strong defense: he is the World Champion, the Ballon d'Or winner, and in his time, he was a symbol of confidence, discipline, and leadership in defense. We saw that the defensive playing style yielded results. We believe that through his international experience, professional culture, and firm tactics, he will bring a new spirit and a new system to our national team.
A 2+3 contract was signed with the new head coach. We consider long-term cooperation a priority. We will make a worthy contribution to the Asian and World Championships.
After the team led by Srechko Katanec secured a World Cup spot, the contract was expected to be extended. However, the head coach's health unexpectedly deteriorated.
His coaching team is expected to work at the academy and various national teams.
The appointment of the coach was continuously studied by international experts, analysts, and the coaching council. There is not the slightest doubt about Timur Kapadze's potential and coaching skills; he was not disrespected. Our goal is to develop together at the international level.
