The 2025 World Weightlifting Championship held in Førde, Norway, has concluded. Team Uzbekistan finished fifth in the overall standings.

This year’s event became one of the most memorable tournaments for Uzbek athletes. Representing Uzbekistan, Akbar Djurayev and Ruslan Nuriddinov performed successfully, proudly raising the nation’s flag.

In the -110 kg weight category, Akbar Djurayev lifted 196 kg in the snatch, setting a new world record. He won gold medals in all three disciplines — snatch, clean & jerk, and total — becoming a three-time world champion. It is worth recalling that Djurayev also won gold at the 2021 and 2023 championships.

His compatriot, experienced athlete Ruslan Nuriddinov, also competed in the same category. He placed fourth in the snatch with 186 kg and third in the clean & jerk with 228 kg. As a result, Nuriddinov earned two bronze medals — in the clean & jerk and total.

With one gold and one bronze medal, Uzbekistan’s national team shared fifth place with China and South Korea. This result marked the best performance among Central Asian and CIS nations.

North Korea claimed the overall title, winning 9 medals — 5 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze.

It should be noted that the championship in Førde brought together the world’s strongest athletes, testing not only their physical but also mental endurance. Team Uzbekistan once again proved its growing presence on the global sports stage.

Akbar Djurayev’s record-breaking performance continues to draw admiration from the sporting community. Many now regard him as one of the brightest new faces in world weightlifting.

Thus, the World Championship in Norway brought pride and joy to Uzbekistan — a moment where the hard work, determination, and perseverance of our athletes paid off once again.
