Pep Guardiola, who is leading the generation change process at Manchester City, hasn't abandoned his plans to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season. The Spanish coach continues to search for new players to stabilize the team's potential for the long term.
According to English publications, the Citizens are showing serious interest in Barcelona's young and talented defender Alejandro Balde during the summer transfer window. Guardiola himself is said to have personally taken the initiative in this transfer.
According to E-Notícies, Guardiola recently held a private conversation with the Catalan club's sporting director, Deco, discussing the possibility of acquiring Baldé. Manchester City aims to further strengthen its defensive line, especially by acquiring a consistent left-wing player.
In 2023, the English club, taking advantage of Barcelona's financial difficulties, attempted Balde's transfer, but the Catalans refused to sell their academy graduate. Currently, the Blaugrana's financial situation has stabilized, and the likelihood of leaving Baldini, a key player in the starting lineup, is significantly lower.
At the same time, according to experts, Guardiola sees his compatriot Baldé as one of the most suitable players for City's style. He is distinguished by speed, a culture of ball handling, and maturity in positional defense.
The 21-year-old defender's current contract with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2028. Transfermarkt values Baldé at €60 million.
Guardiola's plan is that if a chance to acquire Baldé arises, he could become the team's main winger at Manchester City. However, for this transfer to happen, City needs to make a very serious offer.
Thus, Guardiola is on the verge of making important decisions that will affect City's future in the next transfer window.
