FIFA Awards Controversial Goal to Kerzhakov, Decision Sparks RFU Debate

FIFA has confirmed that Alexander Kerzhakov was the scorer of a controversial goal during a 2005 friendly match between Russia and Germany. This was reported by journalist Ivan Karpov.

Kerzhakov himself received an official letter from FIFA. According to the document and the available data, it was indicated that Kerzhakov should be officially recorded as the scorer of the goal.

At the same time, FIFA emphasized that the final decision regarding statistical adjustments remains under the jurisdiction of the Russian Football Union. Should the Russian Football Union support FIFA’s conclusion, the rankings of Russia's top goal scorers will also change.

In this case, Artem Dzyuba will lose his status as the sole record holder, and his record will tie with Kerzhakov's: 31 goals each.
