Apple to pay $250 million to settle lawsuit over Siri features

Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a lawsuit accusing the company of misleadingly advertising AI features ahead of the iPhone 16 launch. According to the Financial Times, plaintiffs accused Apple of exaggerating the capabilities of Apple Intelligence, particularly the updated version of Siri. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reporting states.
The lawsuit alleges that the company gave users a false impression that advanced AI capabilities would arrive sooner than expected. As a result, customers who purchased an iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 claimed they paid for technologies that were not available at the time of purchase.
Apple did not admit wrongdoing in the lawsuit but preferred to reach a settlement to avoid further litigation. Under the terms of the agreement, U.S. customers who purchased an iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025, may receive compensation of up to $95 per device.
Since introducing Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024, Apple has been promising a smarter version of Siri. These updates are expected to bring Siri to the level of modern chatbots like ChatGPT or Claude.
There are rumors that the new system could work with Google Gemini technology, but recent reports suggest Apple may allow users to choose from various third-party large language models. This settlement was reached just ahead of Apple's annual developer conference on June 8.
