Instagram introduces new Instants feature

Instagram has globally launched its new "Instants" feature, allowing users to share authentic and ephemeral photos. This update aims to create a more intimate communication environment similar to Snapchat and BeReal, enabling users to share photos with close friends that can be viewed only once and remain for 24 hours. According to Techcrunch.com reports.

The key feature of Instants is that users must capture photos directly through the in-app camera, with no editing allowed. Uploading from the gallery or processing images is not possible, though adding text is permitted. Through this approach, Meta aims to encourage users to move away from artificial filters and show life moments as they are.

To ensure safety and privacy, Instagram prohibits taking screenshots or screen recordings of these photos. Sent photos are stored in a private archive for one year, and users can create special collections for Stories. If a message is sent by mistake, it can be canceled using the "undo" button while it remains unopened.

Meta is currently testing the Instants format as a standalone app in certain regions like Spain and Italy. Experts believe that with this step, Instagram aims to restore a friendly and personal communication environment on a platform saturated with influencers and ads. However, as the popularity of apps like BeReal has declined, it remains unclear how users will receive this update.
