For example, if you type the word “disregard” into Google search right now, you will encounter an unexpected result. This situation is being heavily criticized on social media, and it is not hard to understand why. A link to the Merriam-Webster dictionary is still on the page, but you have to scroll through a massive void to reach it.
For many users, this empty response remains the only visible thing on the page. Most importantly, the answer provided by AI has no value for a user searching for the word “disregard.” This is a clear example of a system that has become a broken tool.
For comparison, one can look at the Bing search engine, which is less aggressive with its AI summaries. While not perfect, it can provide useful information. Many experts in the tech industry are noting for the first time in their careers that Bing results are more useful than the information provided by Google.
