A major ecological project is being implemented in the city of Samarkand in connection with the 80th anniversary of the establishment of UNESCO, a fortress of world cultural heritage. According to the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, a modern green park with an area of 5 hectares is being created under the motto "Relying on Heritage, Towards the Future."

Within the framework of the project, it is planned to plant a total of 80 thousand trees and shrubs, and the first stage of the event began on October 31 on the territory of the "Eternal City" complex. On the first day, 564 different types of trees and shrubs were planted on 1.2 hectares of land.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of Great Britain to UNESCO Anna Nsubuga, Permanent Representative of Burkina Faso Flavien Imah William Nezien, Minister of Sports of Uzbekistan Adham Ikramov, the leadership of the Ministry of Ecology, the khokimiyat of Samarkand region, and representatives of the international delegation. They assessed this initiative as a "positive environmental initiative and a symbol of friendship."

Local and decorative tree species such as elm, catalpa, oak, Japanese pagoda tree, plane tree, acacia, willow, date palm, and apple are planted in the park. At the same time, within the framework of the project, a water-saving drip irrigation system, solar panels, composting sites for waste processing, and walkways made of environmentally friendly materials will be implemented.

This initiative is aimed not only at improving the city's ecology but also at presenting Samarkand as a "green diplomacy center."

About the UNESCO conference

From October 30 to November 13, the city of Samarkand will host the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference. This event, held for the first time in 40 years outside of Paris and in Central Asia, coincides with the 80th anniversary of UNESCO.

More than 2,800 representatives from 190 countries and international organizations are participating in the conference. Among them are about 70 high-ranking officials. More than 500 international journalists are covering the summit.

It is no coincidence that Samarkand was chosen as the host city for the conference. This ancient city, located at the crossroads of the Silk Road, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001. For centuries, Samarkand has been a center where different cultures, religions, and peoples have met, becoming a symbol of unity and dialogue.

This tree-planting campaign, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of UNESCO, was also a new step in spreading the ideas of progress, peace, and respect for nature to the world.
