How Samarkand will change by 2045: New roads and parks

The eternal city of Samarkand will acquire a new look in the coming years. A new draft resolution developed by the government aims to comprehensively develop the ancient city, modernize its infrastructure to meet contemporary standards, and regulate all construction work based on a single master plan. From now on, every new structure will be built only based on a thoroughly developed master plan and detailed territorial planning projects.
City areas will be divided into three important zones
According to the new strategic document, Samarkand's land areas are being divided into three types of functional zones:
Conservation zone: Cultural heritage sites and unique green areas preserved over centuries will be under special protection here. New construction that damages the historical appearance will be strictly limited.
Reconstruction zone: Work will be carried out to repair existing buildings and adapt them to urban planning requirements.
Renovation zone: Modern complexes with all amenities will be built in place of structures that are morally obsolete and do not meet today's requirements.
Revolutionary changes in the transport system
By 2045, Samarkand is expected to become one of the most convenient cities in terms of transport. According to the plan:
New roads: An additional 837 kilometers of new road networks will be built in the city.
Expansion: Existing 160 kilometers of roads will be expanded to increase capacity.
Tram service: New tram lines will be established to develop public transport.
Public transport: All conditions will be created for at least 60 percent of city residents to give up private cars and use convenient public transport.
Ecology: A step towards a green city
Samarkand's air and nature will also receive special attention. Within the framework of the master plan, an additional 11 thousand hectares of green spaces will be created within the city. Around the city, a 18 thousand hectare huge "green belt" will be created. As a result, the volume of green space per capita will increase from the current 5 square meters to 10 square meters — doubling it.
Also, any changes in the historical center of Samarkand, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, will be carried out in consultation with international experts, preserving the spirit of the ancient city. These reforms will undoubtedly provide unforgettable impressions not only for Samarkand residents but also for tourists from all corners of the world.
In your opinion, how much will the expansion of tram networks in Samarkand affect the reduction of traffic congestion in the city?
