Protest in Valencia: Resignation of the regional government is demanded
Thousands of Spanish citizens have taken to the streets of Valencia to demand the resignation of regional leader Carlos Mazon and his government. They accuse the government of failing to take the necessary measures and not issuing a timely emergency warning during the October 2024 floods. Hundreds of people died as a result of the disaster.

This was the fourth major protest in Valencia since October last year. About 25,000 people took part in the event.

Carlos Mazon has come under intense pressure from Spanish society. The protesters have strongly criticized the government, saying that citizens were only warned about the disaster after the city's streets were flooded. According to them, messages about the state of emergency were delivered with a delay via mobile phones.

Mazon, a member of the conservative Popular Party, is also accused of failing to take timely measures to deal with the natural disaster. According to reports, volunteers initially helped the victims, while the government was slow to mobilize police and military forces.

Mazon responded to these criticisms by saying that it was impossible to predict the scale of the natural disaster in advance and that the regional government had not received sufficient information from the central government.

It should be recalled that on October 30, more than 300 liters of rain fell per square meter in several hours in some areas of Valencia. In particular, in the village of Chiva, this figure reached 491 liters, which is equivalent to the amount of rainfall for an entire year. The powerful flow of water destroyed bridges, swept away people, cars and even houses.

In the city of Paiporta, located on the outskirts of Valencia, one of the areas most affected by the floods, local residents protested during the visit of government officials. Some protesters even threw mud at Spain's King Felipe and Queen Letizia.
