The European Union's priority is to strengthen support for Kiev in the fight against Russian aggression so that Ukraine can achieve peace by force, a senior EU official said at a briefing in Brussels on Friday, February 21.
"We need to strengthen Ukraine, thereby giving it the opportunity to abandon a bad deal," the EU official said.
He stressed that there is currently no peace agreement and assured that the European Union fully shares the position of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and will not accept peace talks without the participation of Kiev and Brussels. "We need to move faster, move more and show solidarity to achieve peace by force," the official said.
Increased military assistance to Ukraine
To this end, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, has announced a new initiative - an increase in the European Union's military assistance to Ukraine. The initiative will be presented at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on February 24, the third anniversary of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The new project envisages the delivery of additional military assistance to Ukraine, including artillery shells, air defense systems, as well as the equipping and training of entire brigades. Brussels claims that the Ukrainian side has made these requests to its partners.
