London police have arrested a pro-Palestinian activist from the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster.

The man, waving a Palestinian flag, entered the grounds of the British Parliament on the morning of March 8. He quickly climbed the railing and climbed a few meters along the wall of Big Ben, only then did he attract the attention of the police.

At some point, he took off his shoes to climb to the top of the tower. However, he injured his feet and left blood stains on the stone wall.

The activist took to Instagram to protest against “police repression and state violence.”

He negotiated with the police throughout the day, saying he would only go down “on his own terms.” He threatened to climb even higher, putting his life in danger, if anyone approached him.

The incident has led to the closure of Westminster Bridge and the cancellation of all tours of the Houses of Parliament. A group of people gathered in a fenced-off square opposite Big Ben, chanting "Freedom for Palestine" and "You are a hero," the BBC reported.

Police managed to persuade the activist to descend through a fire hydrant after midnight. According to The Independent, the man spent 16 hours in the minaret. He has now been arrested.
