During a seven-hour meeting in Florida between US President Donald Trump and Finnish President Alexander Stubb on Saturday, the American leader asked his Finnish counterpart whether Russian President Vladimir Putin could be trusted.
Stubb said this at a press conference in London on Sunday. His words were quoted by the Finnish broadcaster Yle.
The Finnish president noted that the meeting was productive and said that two main issues were discussed: bilateral relations between Finland and the US and Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
According to Stubb, he conveyed to Trump the firm support of Finland and all of Europe in the war against Ukraine. He also emphasized that there was only one initiator in this war.
"Trump asked me if I could trust Putin. I told him no," the Finnish leader said.
According to Stubb, relations between Finland and the United States have reached a new level after the meeting with Trump.
"The United States is preparing new sanctions against Russia if Russia does not comply with or violates the ceasefire in Ukraine," Stubb said after his visit to Florida.
