
French club Paris Saint-Germain won their first European Cup in their history, defeating Italy's Inter Milan 5-0 in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League final. The Parisians showed complete dominance in this match at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
However, this historic victory led to widespread unrest in France. In Paris and other cities across the country, fans took to the streets to celebrate. But the celebration quickly turned into riots. Gatherings on the Champs-Élysées and around the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris led to clashes with police. The police were forced to use tear gas and water cannons.
According to the French Interior Ministry, 559 people have been arrested across the country, 491 of them in Paris. As a result of the riots, 192 people were injured, including 22 police officers and 7 firefighters. 264 vehicles were also set on fire.
Two people died during the riots. A 17-year-old teenager was stabbed to death in Dax, and a 23-year-old man died in Paris after being hit by a car while riding a scooter.
Paris police chief Laurent Nunez said PSG will hold a parade on the Champs-Élysées to celebrate the victory. About 100,000 fans are expected to attend the event. Police will take additional measures to prevent unrest.
French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated PSG on their victory and said he would welcome them to the Elysée Palace.
