Ukrainian drones hit Russian territory 2,000 km away for the first time

The Komi Republic, located in northern Russia and about 2,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, has come under Ukrainian drone attack for the first time. The incident occurred in one of the country’s strategically important industrial areas — the city of Ukhta.

According to official information released at local time, a drone attack threat was declared in Ukhta. A report circulated via Telegram stated that the drones were directed towards an oil refinery near the city. The “Day” news program reported: “A drone fell on the territory of the oil refinery. <...> No fire occurred at the oil refining complex.”

Following the incident, the “Yarmarka” shopping complex in the city center and the nearby oil refinery were promptly evacuated. In addition, Ukraine’s Supernova+ Telegram channel claimed that the main target of the attack was the “Lukoil-Ukhtaneftepererabotka” plant.

Residents of Ukhta reported mobile internet disruptions during the incident. Similar communication issues were reported by residents of the city of Syktyvkar. While Russia’s air defense system was active, the reception and departure of aircraft at Ukhta Airport were temporarily suspended. This was confirmed by Rosaviatsiya spokesman Artyom Korenyako.

According to the acting head of the Komi Republic, Rostislav Goldstein, no one was injured as a result of the drone crashes.

It should be noted that since the start of the large-scale war, Ukrainian drones have targeted the Komi Republic’s territory for the first time. This indicates that the geography of the battlefield is expanding, and even remote regions are under potential threat.
