The United Nations (UN) has mobilized 25 special groups to address the consequences of the recent earthquake in Afghanistan and assess the situation accurately. This was officially announced by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
According to the UN press service, "The United Nations has deployed at least 25 special groups to study and analyze the situation in the region and is already actively assisting in overcoming the consequences of the natural disaster. It also delivers the necessary cargo in a timely manner to the settlements where it is possible to reach," the report said.
The agency noted that the stock of necessary materials for the construction of shelters and medical equipment is currently decreasing, and the current funding is insufficient to meet all needs. At the same time, it was noted that the natural disaster has caused many crises in the region, including severe drought and the return of millions of migrants to Afghanistan from neighboring countries.
Recall that on August 31, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 was recorded in the Hindu Kush mountains. These tremors occurred 27 km southwest of the city of Asadabad in eastern Afghanistan. According to Khaama Press, strong tremors destroyed entire villages, landslides blocked access to some settlements, and communication lines were cut off. Rescue operations are being carried out in difficult mountainous terrain under difficult conditions.
According to Afghan officials, the death toll from the earthquake has reached 1,411, with another 3,124 injured. This exacerbates the situation in the region and once again demonstrates the need for international assistance and rapid rescue operations.
