In Canada, an unexpected discovery surprised people. During renovation work at a school in Ontario province, workers accidentally found a wallet behind a wall that had belonged to a student 51 years ago, The Hamilton Spectator reported.
Inside the wallet were a 1974 student ID, a driver’s license, a social insurance card, old family and friends’ photos, and a 35-cent hockey ticket. From the name written on the document, the owner — Tom Shopf — was identified.
“Finding such a historical item and seeing a time before we were even born was very interesting. We immediately thought: we must find this person and return his wallet. Even after 50 years, he will be glad,” said school counselor Lorna McQueen.
Through social media, they got in touch with Shopf. “At first, I thought it was a joke,” he said in surprise. The most curious part was that the wallet also contained a photo of his childhood home. “The house was built in 1960, and my mother still lives there. When I showed her the picture, we laughed together,” he recalled.
According to Shopf, it also became clear how the wallet ended up behind the wall: in his youth, he dropped it while in the restroom. Someone else took the cash but hid the remaining documents and photos behind the tiles.
