260 prisoners released from prison after mistake

A major error in the British prison system has been exposed — more than 260 inmates were unlawfully released within a year. This was reported by “Sky News,” citing government statistics.

According to the data, between March 2024 and March 2025, 233 people were released from prisons, and another 29 inmates were mistakenly freed directly from courtrooms. This figure is 128 percent higher than last year.

The situation drew public attention after the case of Ethiopian migrant Hadush Kebatu. He had been convicted of sexual crimes but was mistakenly released during deportation procedures and later went missing. It was later discovered that he had fled to London.

Following Kebatu’s acts involving a 14-year-old girl and a woman, protests erupted across the United Kingdom. Citizens demanded that the government end the practice of housing illegal migrants in hotels.

Currently, about 32,000 illegal migrants are living in 210 hotels across the country. According to “The Times,” this system costs British taxpayers around 4 billion pounds sterling per year. The government has promised to completely end this practice by 2029.

Experts note that the error in the prison system revealed not only bureaucratic failures but also deep problems in the country’s migration policy.
