U.S. seizes Venezuelan oil tanker

The United States has seized another oil tanker linked to Venezuela. The tanker named “Veronica” was taken by U.S. forces in the Caribbean Sea without any resistance. The incident occurred ahead of a planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.
According to the U.S. Navy’s Southern Command, the tanker violated restrictions imposed by the United States on sanctioned vessels. The official statement emphasized that only lawful and coordinated oil exports are allowed to leave Venezuela. The operation was carried out before dawn and ended without any confrontation.
According to reports, the Guyana-flagged tanker “Veronica” left Venezuelan territorial waters empty in early January. Nevertheless, U.S. officials said the vessel may have previously been involved in transporting Venezuelan oil. This tanker is the sixth Venezuela-linked vessel seized by the United States in the past month.
The U.S. government is preparing court warrants to seize dozens more tankers connected to Venezuela’s oil trade. Most of the previously seized vessels were sailing under fake flags or had their official registrations canceled. Washington said these measures are aimed at controlling Venezuela’s oil flows and stabilizing the situation in the region.
