Trump: Violence in Iranian protests is easing

U.S. President Donald Trump said that violence against protesters in Iran is decreasing. He noted that there are currently no plans for large-scale executions. Iranian officials reported that 26-year-old Erfan Soltani, arrested in the city of Karaj, will not face the death penalty. Trump called this news positive.

In recent weeks, protests have eased slightly, but information flow is limited due to internet restrictions. President Masoud Pezeshkian said the government is trying to address economic problems and improve purchasing power, tackling corruption and currency issues.

Trump said Iran’s government could face a crisis, but currently, there is no risk of regime collapse. He expressed doubt that Reza Pahlavi, son of the former monarch and opposition leader, could gain enough support inside the country. Turkey and Saudi Arabia opposed violence.

The G7 (the world’s leading seven industrial countries) condemned human rights violations by the Iranian government and warned that if violence continues, further sanctions could be applied. HRANA human rights group recorded 2,435 protesters and 153 government supporters dead. Protests started over economic issues but turned into a major internal crisis.
