Car-free days introduced in Uzbekistan to improve ecology

A new initiative aimed at protecting the environment and reducing transport load in cities is being implemented in our country. Starting from May 1, 2026, the 10th and 25th of each month have been designated as "car-free day" and "car-free week" in Uzbekistan.
In accordance with the legislation, certain restrictions will be introduced for state civil servants within the framework of these campaigns. Specifically, the use of official vehicles will be strictly prohibited on these days. The aim is to reduce dependence on personal vehicles and popularize alternative modes of transport.
At the same time, it is also envisaged that drivers' salaries will be maintained if the designated dates fall on working days. This will serve to ensure the social protection of employees and avoid causing them additional inconvenience.
According to experts, the "car-free day" initiative is of great importance in reducing air pollution in cities, alleviating traffic congestion, and improving the culture of using public transport. Furthermore, such measures will positively impact the formation of ecological awareness and responsibility among the population.
It is noted that such campaigns are widely used in international practice and have proven their effectiveness. In many countries, traffic density on roads has been reduced and significant results have been achieved in environmental protection through this very method.
In short, this initiative being introduced in Uzbekistan will not only improve the ecological situation but also contribute to enhancing the quality of life for the population and making the urban environment more comfortable.
