Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his sincere appreciation for Sir Alex Ferguson, who has left a deep mark on English football history. According to him, today's Premier League and coaching school are inspired by the system founded by the Scottish legend.
"Everything starts with Sir Alex, and then we come. His influence on Manchester United is undeniable. However, it's not just about one team - it changed the mindset of all English football. He took others to a new level," Guardiola said in an interview with Sky Sports.
The Spanish specialist also recalled meeting Ferguson in the early years of his career:
"I was 37 years old, working at Barcelona, and he had already become a football legend. But in the conversation with me, he treated me very simply, humanely. During this time, I learned great respect, sincerity, and dedication to the profession from him. It's a great school for any coach," said Pep.
Guardiola also admitted that he regretted not having had time to compete directly with Sir Alex in the Premier League, but emphasized that he was proud to have known him.
"We weren't opponents on the field, but I still feel his inspiration. Every coach - whether in Spain or England - understands that they are following in Ferguson's footsteps. It's impossible to erase his trail," said the Manchester City manager.
For information, Sir Alex Ferguson led Manchester United for 26 years, winning 38 trophies with the club. Under his leadership, the Red Devils became the most successful team in English and European football.
Guardiola's words vividly illustrated the change of generations in football: the new generation of coaches, even competitors, continue to feel the influence of Sir Alex Ferguson on their way.
