Former Russian national football team player Aleksandr Kerzhakov responded to Valery Karpin's comments following FIFA's decision to review the controversial goal credited during the Germany-Russia match. Karpin, with a hint of sarcasm, remarked that he might now have to keep an eye on Kerzhakov as well.
In response, Kerzhakov jokingly stated that he had been keeping himself in excellent shape and self-control for the past 8.5 years since retiring from professional football in 2017. He suggested that if Karpin wanted to verify this, he should invite him to the national team's next training camp.
"Valery Georgievich, it has been 8.5 years since I ended my professional career, during which I have been keeping myself in excellent self-control. If you want to make sure of this, invite me to the next national team training camp," Sport24 quoted Kerzhakov as saying. Kerzhakov is 43 years old.
He retired from professional football in 2017. It should be noted that FIFA officially recognized Kerzhakov as the scorer of the controversial goal. The final decision now lies with the Russian Football Union.
